I play a lot of games that are a lot heavier than DST, my pc isnt the problem, neither is my friend's. I think this would be a good time to shamelessly advertise my guide. I never tried Tunggle or evolved, but i heard it is laggy too, so idk lag is my problem xD. The big problem is, when i use the normal servers of DST, and me or my friend are the host, it gets really laggy, i cant even pick things from the ground, and i wanted to solve this, without the need of buying a better internet. At least I think you can join over Steam. You can just host the server over the client and join either over the server name or join over steam. DST Servers connect to some Klei servers to manage the user connections and therefore work without open ports as well. To do this you don't need to either port forward or use a VPN client. If I understood it correctly you want to connect to a client hosted server that one of you hosts, right? Top 12 Hamachi Alternatives for Virtual LAN Gaming I really don't think it will help with lag though though I'm guessing lag isn't your problem either.

I want to know this because we can't play in normal servers because is too laggy, we can't even cut trees. Please be aware that the content of this thread may be outdated and no longer applicable. The steps to do this, are going to be something like this, depending on your Windows version:ġ. Windows won't automatically set an interface to a value lower than 5 currently, but for simplicity, set your wired connection to 1, and her wireless to 1 as well. You'll need to change the metric value of the interface you're using to connect to each other, on both computers. You could have both systems set to DHCP, or both auto configuration IP addresses, and it would still work just fine once we're done as long as they're on the same subnet, you're fine. Just allow Borderlands 2 through your Windows firewall, or turn off your Windows firewall all together.Īlso, static IP addresses don't matter at all. anyways, it's a really dumb way to program a multiplayer feature imho.įor LAN play, you actually don't need to forward any ports at all. If you have any virtual adapters, they may be programmed to even faster speeds, and have lower metric values than your wired connection, so you'd never be able to play BL2 LAN. If you connect your computer through WiFi, but also plug in the wired connection to the same network, the lower metric value of the faster wired connection will make your computer ignore the WiFi yay, idiot proof! It's kind of a dummy proof thing from Microsoft's viewpoint. The WiFi automatically has a higher value than the wired connection. Windows assigns a metric value based on the speed of the connection, which is why you normally can't play BL2 LAN over a WiFi connection.

So if that's not the interface you're connected to each other with, it won't work without some adjustments. It is programmed to find the adapter your system has deemed "most important" (lowest metric value), and only use that one, doesn't matter if it's disconnected even. Normally a hosted game would listen for connections on all available interfaces unless told otherwise, but not this one.
