I play a lot of games that are a lot heavier than DST, my pc isnt the problem, neither is my friend's. I think this would be a good time to shamelessly advertise my guide. I never tried Tunggle or evolved, but i heard it is laggy too, so idk lag is my problem xD. The big problem is, when i use the normal servers of DST, and me or my friend are the host, it gets really laggy, i cant even pick things from the ground, and i wanted to solve this, without the need of buying a better internet. At least I think you can join over Steam. You can just host the server over the client and join either over the server name or join over steam. DST Servers connect to some Klei servers to manage the user connections and therefore work without open ports as well. To do this you don't need to either port forward or use a VPN client. Windows assigns a metric value based on the speed of the connection, which is why you normally can't play BL2 LAN over a WiFi connection.
So if that's not the interface you're connected to each other with, it won't work without some adjustments. It is programmed to find the adapter your system has deemed "most important" (lowest metric value), and only use that one, doesn't matter if it's disconnected even. Normally a hosted game would listen for connections on all available interfaces unless told otherwise, but not this one.
